From a FB video, a native of Greece highly recommends visiting islands that are not on the typical vacationer's list. For ferries between the islands book through Ferry Hopper (using their app) or SeaJets.
The Cyclades Islands: Koufonissi, Sifnos (the Arcadian), Syros. (Sifnos is also considered one of the top island destinations for the best Greek food.)
The Ionian Islands known for their greener unlike many of the more barren islands: Paxos, Ithaca, Kythira
The Dodecanisos Islands: Symi, Kastellorizo, Lipsi
The Sporades Islands for their natural surroundings: Skopelos, Skyros, Alonissos
Naxos
Stayed at Hotel Sphinx, a newly renovated hotel in the city but near the beach. Hotel agent recommended a few local restaurants: Scirocco, To Elliniko, Taverna Naxos. Also Yasouvlaki (souvlaki), Ammos (seafood), and Doukato.
